Irish sailor, Eve McMahon has retained her title of ILCA 6 U21 World Champion in Viana Do Costello in Portugal. A clear winner with a race to spare, McMahon took the championship 30 points ahead of her closest competitors – Evie Saunders of Australia and Ginevra Caracciolo Di Brienza of Italy.
This victory comes just eight months after she last won the U21 World Championships in Tangier, Morocco. Eve had a very strong week, making it hard for her competitors to come close as she maintained low scores throughout the competition, finishing five of her races with first positions. The racing was tough with varying winds and strong tides for the competitors to sail against all week.
Coach Rory Fitzpatrick commented “Eve was consistently strong each day and performed to a good standard in varying aspects of her racing. This will be a strong takeaway for her as Paris 2024 now closes in.”
