Our Impact
The Pathway Programme
Irish Sailing’s Pathway Programme has been immensely successful. The stages of the Pathway are clearly defined. Holistic training and coaching programmes are run annually.
Through additional funding, the ISF has been instrumental in developing these programmes. The Pathway now includes coaching, strength & conditioning, sports nutrition, sports psychology, meteorology expertise and data analysis.
The benefits are enormous and include life skills such as developing independence, team-work, commitment to excellence, self-management, dealing with set-backs etc.
In order to ensure continued success and a consistent pipeline of talent, the Pathway Programme needs to be expanded and made available to many more talented sailors.
Athlete Support
A core tenet of the ISF’s vision is to offer more opportunities to young and ambitious athletes. We feel strongly that ambition and drive should not be deterred by financial constraints.
The ISF seeks to address this constraint directly with athletes through:
- Scholarships
- Bursaries
- Facilities and equipment support
By removing the financial barrier we can help achieve the goal of unlocking Irelands full potential as a sailing nation.

Facilities & Equipment
Phase One of the Irish Sailing Performance HQ (PHQ) opened in 2019, providing our athletes with a central training hub, something which had not previously existed for Irish sailors.
The facility, housed in three shipping containers, was entirely funded through philanthropic donations by supporters of the Irish Sailing Foundation.
This brought High-Performance sailing in Ireland onto a more even footing with many other sports in Ireland, including Rugby, Swimming, Rowing, Athletics and Boxing.
Phase Two, The Coastguard Station, Dun Laoghaire harbour is now our focus and will provide a permanent facility with essential facilities for world-class athletes.

Irish Sailing Successes
This table demonstrates a snapshot of Irish Youth and U23 Sailing success. The on-going challenge is to provide these enormously talented sailors with the opportunity to progress in a world class training programme and without prohibitive financial pressure.
